Fibredontics is a newly developed dental technique that utilises special fibre re-enforced material for creating dental structures. For example, the material can be use together with the white filling to form a strong filling material. The special fibre material can also be used for creating a framework between teeth to fill a gap with a functional tooth!
Here are a few examples of the application of Fibredontics.
Traditionally, most of the dental crowns are made of porcelain costing a significant amount of money and requiring multiple visits to the dentist. It is possible to create a fibre-reinforced composite crown or filling costing a lot less and it requires just one visit to the dentist!
Fibre-reinforced splints can be used to re-inforce a loose tooth, instead of removing it. Such a tooth can be bound with its stable neighbouring teeth. This increases the useful life of the loose tooth and makes it comfortable for the patient to eat using that strengthened tooth.
With Fibredontics, it is possible to re-use a tooth that had to be removed due to infection! The same tooth can be modified and transplanted back to its place in the mouth by bonding it with its neighbouring teeth either as a temporary or a semi-permanent bridge.
Instead of making a bridge from expensive porcelain material requiring more than one visit, it is possible to create a bridge using fibre-reinforced composite material for a fraction of the cost.
